A source close to the Adoki family told LEADERSHIP that the kidnappers made the demand less than 48 hours after the incident when they called the family with the kidnapped Chief Registrar’s personal mobile phone.
Adoki was kidnapped last Sunday at his hometown, Omalem-Abua community in Abua/Odual local government area of Rivers State, where he had gone to attend a harvest thanksgiving service of a church in the community.
Sources in the community said the Chief Registrar, who is also the traditional ruler of the community, had used the opportunity of his visit to the community to inspect one of his ongoing projects when the kidnappers accosted him and took him to an unknown destination en route Ogonokom waterfront, also in Abua.
The sources stated that the criminals had sighted the chief registrar in the community and decided to contact their colleagues in Nembe, a community in Bayelsa State, who came and mounted a mini road block.
They further said as Adoki slowed down his car, the hoodlums forcefully entered his car and drove him alongside his driver to Ogonokom waterfront but later dropped the driver.
The sources said, “He went to his village, Omalem to attend a harvest thanksgiving service. So in the process he decided to inspect one of his projects not knowing that these bad boys were monitoring him. When they confirmed that he was the one they contacted their colleagues at Nembe, who came and mounted what looked like a road block.
“As he was about to leave the community, on getting to the road block he stopped and so they forcefully entered his car and kidnapped him and his driver and drove to Ogonokom waterside where they took him away but they later dropped his driver.”
