Civil Servants To Embark On Strike On Nov 1

 Workers Celebrate May Day In AbujaThe Trade Union Congress of Nigeria(TUC) has planned to commence indefinite strike on November 1, 2014 if the leadership of the National Assembly refuses to clarify its position on the deregulation of the national minimum wage in the country.
This was revealed at its emergency meeting in Lagos over the weekend.
The Central Working Committee (CWC) of the union regretted that there were conflicting reports on the removal of minimum wages from the exclusive list.

Okada rider kills policeman for seizing bike

A police corporal, Joseph Ebosele, has been confirmed dead at a Lagos hospital after he was hit with an iron rod by a motorcyclist, Bakare Lukman, in the Meiran area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that around 11pm on October 11, 2014, policemen on patrol arrested Lukman for contravening the traffic law which prohibits the movement of commercial motorcycles after 10pm.
It was learnt that after seizing Lukman’s bike, the team leader of the policemen handed it over to Ebosele to ride to the station.
Our correspondent learnt that a furious Lukman reportedly escaped police custody, caught up with Ebosele and attacked him with an iron rod.
A source told our correspondent that the 35-year-old deceased and his colleagues were responding to a distress call when the incident occurred.

FG, states, LGs share N603.5 for Sept

 Mowe Ofada RoadThe Minister of State for Finance, Mr Bashir Yuguda, on Wednesday announced that Federal, States and Local Governments shared N603.5bn revenue that accrued to the nation in September.
Yuguda made this known in Abuja when he briefed newsmen on the outcome of the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee meeting.
He said that the shared amount comprised statutory revenue of N463.7bn, N35.5bn Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme funds and N6.3bn refunded by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
Other components of the money, according to him, were Value Added Tax figure of N65.1bn, another N30bn payment from NNPC and N2.7bn Excess Crude money released to augment shortfall in revenue generated during the period.
Giving the breakdown of the distribution of the revenue among the three tiers of government, Yuguda said that the Federal Government received N217.7bn representing 52.68 per cent, states, N110.4bn, representing 26.72 per cent.
The local governments, he said, received N85.1bn, amounting to 20.60 per cent of the amount distributed.
He also disclosed that N43.7bn, representing 13 per cent derivation revenue was shared among the oil producing states.

Boko Haram Reloaded Abducts 40 More Girls in Adamawa

bokoharamThe ceasefire deal reportedly struck with the Boko Haram Islamist sect by the Federal Government has suffered another major set-back as the insur­gents were said to have abducted 40 young ladies in a fresh attack.
The insurgents had in April invaded Chibok, Borno State, and kidnapped over 200 schoolgirls said to he writing examination then. The release of the schoolgirls was said to be the subject of the alleged negotiation between the Federal Government and Boko Haram leadership.
But Daily Sun gathered that the 40 ladies were reportedly abducted from Waga Mongoro District of Madagali Lo­cal Government Area of Adamwa State.
The villages affected included Mbo­roro, Moda, Kwabapale, Villag, Wa, Vi, Boka, Tilli, Murvwa, Wurogayandi, Mai and Wandu. Others are Futu, Yambele and Wat.
Sources disclosed that the insurgents are also forcefully recruiting people everyday.
The insurgents invaded the district last Saturday, through to Tuesday, making residents to flee to Yola, about 358km away and nearby local govern­ment headquarters not affected by insurgency.

Gov Fayose shuts down fuel station of Ekiti House speaker, others

Barely a week after assuming office as governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose yesterday October 22nd shut down a fuel station belonging to the Ekiti state House of Assembly speaker, Dr Adewale Omirin, and a few others saying that the fuel stations posed environmental hazard to where they were located.

Reacting to the closure of his filling station, the Speaker said the governor was only out to victimize him for not defecting from his political party, APC to the PDP which Fayose belongs to. Continue..

Linda Ikeji Blog Restored After Being Hacked

Around midnight Friday, popular blog, Linda Ikeji’s blog was restored on the Google blogging platform, Blogger.
Embattled blogger, Linda Ikeji, announced the news on Twitter.
“And Google restores lindaikeji.blogspot.com. I hear it’s a record. Normally it takes weeks or months to restore a deleted blog. But not LIB,” she tweeted six minutes after midnight.
In a follow up tweets, she explained that Google had restored the blog after verifying that the allegations of plagiarism were “bogus and deliberate sabotage.”
On Thursday night, a few hours before announcing the restoration of her blogger site, Ms. Ikeji had directed readers to her new site, lindaikejionline.com.
The blog was shut down on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade,  Google’s communication and public affairs manager for Anglophone West Africa had declined to categorically say  why  it shut down the blog.
Mr. Kola-Ogunlade said the company  does not discuss individual accounts.
