Police in Bauchi State have said
13 people were killed and 65 others injured in the explosion that
rocked Azare in Katagum Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.
Police Public Relation Officer in the state. Haruna Mohammed, who said this in Bauchi on Monday, added that out of the people that were injured, 43 had been treated and discharged while 22 were still receiving treatment.
Mohammed said, “So far, 13 persons were confirmed dead while 65 others sustained varying degrees of injuries out of which 43 have been treated and discharged and 22 others are responding to treatment.”
The police spokesman said the police had visited the scene and cordoned it off, pending further investigations.
“The scene was visited and cordoned off by Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit while casualties have been evacuated to the Federal Medical Center, Azare, for medical attention,” the PPRO added.
Mohammed explained that a man, suspected to be one of the insurgents was lynched by a mob, stressing that normalcy had been restored by a combined team of security agencies.
A suspected female suicide bomber had detonated a bomb around 5.30pm on Sunday at the GSM market in the town known as Kasuwan Jagol, where people, particularly young men, sell and repair handsets and accessories.
